LIA also offers young rural women the ability to change their futures, by offering them an opportunity to develop skills in the areas of business, computer sciences, and accounting.
We do not want to only focus on teaching English, hairdressing, nails, massage… This has been the focus of many NGOs through decades, and the women are still only left with low paying jobs, little room for advancement, and limited skills to give them the ability to advance further in their lives.
Because of the high pressure to care for their families, this puts many young women in situations that exploit them, as they have no choice, but to do what they must to earn the money needed to support their parents, siblings and their own children. This is part of the culture here, and an extreme burden on many young Cambodians.
The vision of LIA is to equip young Cambodian women to be able to step into a new place in their society, break free of the stereotypes, open doors that have previously been closed to them due to lack of education and experience, giving them the ability to earn a good income without having to sacrifice their values, morals or health.
